NFZ health insurance in Poland: how much will a Ukrainian have to pay?

31.03.2023

NFZ health insurance is a universal type of insurance policy in Poland provided by the National Health Fund. Making such a document is a normal practice in European countries, because it is much easier and more profitable to make annual insurance payments than to pay an impressive amount for medical care every time.

Medical insurance abroad is conditionally compulsory. Foreigners after arriving in Poland are not required to take out NFZ state insurance. But it is better to take care of this issue so that obtaining medical care requires significantly lower costs.

NFZ travel health insurance

If you decide to come to Poland for a short period of sightseeing, it is better to take out insurance anyway. Nobody is immune to trouble. It’s good if the trip does not require going to the doctors, but in emergency situations, an impressive amount of money will go to medical care, which you could spend on souvenirs and other useful things.

When making a trip at a travel agency, it is better to immediately take care of obtaining an insurance policy. The universal insurance policy covers 27 European countries and covers unforeseen medical expenses in the amount of up to thirty thousand euros. This is a great way to keep yourself safe.

NFZ health insurance for employees and students in Poland

Health insurance in Poland for working citizens and students is not a mandatory norm prescribed by law. But with official employment, monthly contributions to the insurance policy will be automatically deducted from the employee’s salary. But students decide at their own discretion whether or not to issue insurance.

Practice shows that it will be much easier for foreigners in Poland to live with state insurance. This will significantly reduce the cost of medical care. You can do without insurance, but then every visit to the doctor will significantly hit your pocket, and non-payment of bills threatens with litigation.

It doesn’t take long to apply for voluntary health insurance with the NFZ (national health fund) and ZUS (social insurance agency). A simple procedure for Ukrainians suggests that it is better to get insurance than to do without it. Since you will receive a number of undeniable advantages that make living in Poland much easier.

State insurance authorities in Poland

State health insurance is a voluntary procedure, so insurance contributions will not be levied involuntarily (except in cases of official employment). As noted earlier, at the state level, two bodies are responsible for issuing insurance in Poland – ZUS and NFZ. These two departments are structural divisions of the body responsible for medical care.

The responsibilities of the two organizations can be divided as follows:

  • ZUS is responsible for processing various types of social insurance, including the issuance of benefits, accruals;
  • NFZ is specifically responsible for the health insurance business of ZUS.

What types of insurance are there

All types of insurance policies that can be obtained in Poland can be divided into three categories:

  1. compulsory state insurance – insurance payments will be withdrawn by force (for employed citizens);
  2. Voluntary insurance – similar to compulsory, but the person decides whether to issue it or not;
  3. private insurance – the insurance policy is issued not in the state bodies of ZUS and NFZ, but in one of the private medical institutions.

How health insurance works – regardless of the type of insurance, a person receives the same benefits, and will have to pay monthly payments.

Free treatment for the whole family

One of the tangible benefits that health insurance provides is the ability to add relatives to the insurance policy. You can do this for free, but only for certain categories:

  • Native children of the insurance provider under 26 years old, provided they study at one of the educational institutions in Poland (children with disabilities can receive insurance until the end of their lives);
  • spouse, if he has not separately taken out an insurance policy for himself;
  • moms, dads, grandparents who live with the insurance provider or share a household with him.

In case of voluntary insurance, a person is independently engaged in entering relatives into the policy and collecting documents. It is more profitable to issue a single insurance for all family members than to make separate policies for each.

How to get voluntary insurance for a Ukrainian

Voluntary medical insurance in the NFZ is carried out by Ukrainians on their own, if they express such a desire. To do this, you need to contact the NFZ branch in your place of residence and follow these steps:

  1. send an application to the NFZ with a wish to take out an insurance policy;
  2. attach to the application one of the documents giving the right to take out Polish insurance – a residence card, a document confirming refugee status or a European Union resident card;
  3. execute an insurance contract;
  4. fill in the form ZUS ZZA;
  5. Get details and make insurance payments in the first half of each month.

Private health insurance in Poland is issued in the same way, but in private institutions that are entitled to it.

NFZ Health Insurance – Termination

Insurance will expire if:

  • the designer will be fired from his job;
  • the designer will stop making monthly payments;
  • The designer will leave the Schengen area for permanent residence.

Now you know how to get health insurance in Poland to get quality treatment at a much lower cost.
